Advanced Interactive Learning Centers
Each campus opened its new Interactive Learning Center (ILC) during the 2003–2004 academic year. The centerpiece of each facility is a large open computer lab with technologically current hardware and software to support the needs of the users in the community. There are four levels of classrooms in each ILC—lecture classrooms, laptop classrooms, computer classrooms, and ITV or videoconferencing classrooms. Two specialty rooms—the Kaleidoscope room and the Teaching Theater—provide unique environments for instruction and presentations. Conference rooms and group study rooms provide smaller meeting spaces.

Each enrolled student is assigned an account to access networked hardware and software needed for completing assignments. Students have access to the Internet, Microsoft Office, Blackboard, and other SJC-supported applications. In addition to the support provided by student assistants, basic training in the form of “help” tutorials is available to students through the ILC. Other support functions include a help desk, media support, a Cyber café, copier access, and a computer store.
