Responsibilities of Participants
Prospective student, Sponsoring GM Automotive Dealer, and San Jacinto College
San Jacinto College:- Provide on-campus instruction in accordance with the approved ASEP curriculum
- Provide academic advisement
- Assist dealers with student selection for program
- Assist dealership coordinators when planning learning experiences at the sponsoring dealership
- Keep sponsoring dealer informed of student’s academic progress
- Maintain student scholastic records
- Furnish program information when requested
Prospective Students:
- Fulfill all employment requirements of sponsoring dealership
- Maintain academic standards
- Participate in all learning activities at the scheduled times
- Provide sponsoring dealer with responsible and productive employment
- Be responsible for program costs: tuition, fees, books, tools, housing, mileage, etc.
- Wear sponsoring dealer uniform neatly groomed with shirt tail tucked in during both college and cooperative experience phases of program
General Motors Dealer:
- Identify interest in being a sponsoring dealer
- Interview and select prospective student (s)
- Agree to provide “dealership coordinated work experience” in accordance with the program schedule and for the duration of the curriculum
- Appoint an in-dealership mentor to help develop trainee to full productivity level and to work as the San Jacinto College instruction
- Agree to pay trainee during periods of dealership coordinated work experience
- Provide related work experience while assigned to the dealership that supplements that trainee’s most recent instruction (when within dealer’s capacity to do so)
- Provide the new student employee with work uniforms in a manner consistent with other dealership employees
- GM Training Courses and Instructors
- Furnishing college with GM vehicles and components
- Providing college with essential training materials, including GM training center handout pieces
