Meet the OEM Staff
OEM functions under the umbrella of the SHERM department of SJC. OEM is staffed with two full time personnel and an on-call Incident Management Team comprising of members from various college areas who can be activated during a response to staff the Emergency Operations Center.
Ali Shah, Emergency Manager
Ali Shah brings to the office 17 years of public safety experience from various municipalities around the Houston area. He holds certifications as a firefighter, paramedic, hazmat and rescue technician as well as multiple instructor credentials. He started at the College in 2009 as a faculty member and then took on the position of director of the Emergency Medical Technology Department.
Ali holds an MPH in Health Policy and Management from Kent State University, an accomplishment he is very proud to have completed during Hurricane Harvey. He is also a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers and the National Association of EMS Educators.
Kimberly Tamez, Administrative Assistant
Kimberly Tamez is the Administrative Assistant for the office. She is responsible for working with the Emergency Manager on increasing preparedness and readiness of the College for emergencies. Kim is also involved in testing procedures and processes as they pertain to the office, she provides administrative support to the department leader, and facilitates preparation of training curriculum revisions and development of training curriculum for new programs.
Kim graduated from San Jacinto College with an associate’s degree in Arts and will graduate from University of Houston- Clear Lake December 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies.
In her off time, Kim enjoys spending her time with family and friends, as well as watching movies. Kim started her position with the College in November. She is excited for her new position and is ready to help promote positive impact and growth at San Jacinto College.
