HOUSTON – San Jacinto College pitchers Matt Locus and Conrad Ramquist have been named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Athletes of Distinction for maintaining a grade point average of 3.6 or better.

Locus earned Exemplary Academic Achievement with a GPA of 3.75. He completed his studies and graduated from San Jacinto College this month, and will attend the University of Houston this Fall to pursue a business degree.

Ramquist graduated from San Jacinto College in May, and will transfer to the University of Texas to study mechanical engineering. He earned a Superior Academic Achievement Award with a GPA of 3.95.

“I am very proud of Matt and Conrad,” said Tom Arrington, San Jacinto College baseball coach. “This recognition is a true testament to their hard work not only on the field, but more importantly in the classroom. They worked hard every day, and deserve this honor.”

More than 1,600 NJCAA student-athletes met the requirements for individual academic honors, and this marks the 30th consecutive season that the NJCAA has recognized the success of its student-athletes in the classroom.

San Jacinto College finished the 2013 season as the Region XIV South Zone champion with a 35-21 overall record, 22-8 in Region play. The championship was the seventh in a row, 10th in the last 12 years.
