Young students at Mae Smythe Elementary in Pasadena tried their hand  at some real-life science experiments alongside San Jacinto College students during the school's Family Science and Social Studies Night.

The College's science department brought booths featuring chemistry activities for gak, slime, shrinky dinks, chemistry in a bag, lip gloss, and wave machines. San Jacinto College science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) departments are actively involved in service learning, providing college students an opportunity to share with K-12 students what they have learned in the classroom, strengthening classroom curriculum through further application.

The College recently formed a STEM Council to increase awareness of education and career opportunities related to the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. The Council sponsors STEM activities throughout the College and works with community members to promote the STEM fields to K-12 students, while also forging strong partnerships with universities and industries for further education and workforce training.
