San Jacinto College and the University of Texas at San Antonio to provide students with seamless transfers

San Jacinto College has entered into an articulation agreement to allow students seamless transfers to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).

In accordance with the partnership, the University of Texas at San Antonio has developed transfer plans for San Jacinto College students who wish to transfer to the university. Students transferring must have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours. The structure of the transfer plan is based upon the Texas Common Core Curriculum components and the Texas Common Course Numbering System.

Dr. Catherine O'Brien, San Jacinto College associate vice chancellor for learning and assessment, said articulation agreements help alleviate the guesswork of which courses will transfer to a student's university of choice. It provides students a way to reduce the time to completion and allows for a community college and university to work cohesively toward a student's educational goal during both the first two years and after a transfer.

"We hold a strong partnership with the University of Texas at San Antonio, a place where many of our students want to transfer," said O'Brien. "The beauty of this type of transfer agreement is that it allows us to work together with a university to ensure students receive all the information they need to transfer and help them plan their next phase of education."

O'Brien noted that students who complete their associate degree before transferring to a university fare better and are more likely to succeed on their track toward a bachelor's degree.

"We're very excited about this new agreement," said Nancy Martin, UTSA associate vice provost of core curriculum and QEP. "I think San Jacinto College students who transfer to UTSA will be well served in result of this new agreement by receiving a smooth transfer from college to university."
