San Jacinto College softball to hold open tryouts

HOUSTON – The San Jacinto College softball team will hold open tryouts for the 2013 – 2014 season on Saturday, May 25, 2013. High school juniors, graduating seniors, and college sophomores are encouraged to attend.

Tryouts will take place at the softball field located on the San Jacinto College South Campus at 13735 Beamer Road in Houston. Pitchers and catchers should report from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and position players from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants are required to complete a questionnaire and tryout waiver by going to sanjacsports.com/softball. Reservations should be made through Softball Head Coach Kelly Saenz via email at kelly.saenz@sjcd.edu prior to attending.

The San Jacinto College softball team finished the season with an overall record of 40 – 25, 18 – 6 in conference play. Six players were recently named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIV South Conference award winners. Sophomore pitcher Brooke DuBois (Pearland / Pearland HS) and freshman pitcher Karri Smith (Alvin / Alvin HS) were awarded second-team all-conference honors; freshman outfielder Courtney Sams (Pearland / Pearland HS) received first-team all-conference and second-team all-region honors; and freshmen infielders Raven Keeler (Alvin / Alvin HS) and Loren Donaldson (Alvin / Alvin HS), and freshman utility, Sarah Ragsdale (Orange / West Orange-Stark HS), received first-team all-conference and first-team all-region honors.
