Baseball advances to third round with 7-2 win over Angelina College

Rob Vanya - 5/12/2008 Chris Corrigan San Jacinto College’s starting pitcher, Chris Corrigan, won the Region XIV tournament second round game against Angelina, pitching eight and two-thirds innings and limiting the Roadrunners to two runs on six hits.

MT. PLEASANT, TEXAS — With solid pitching and timely hitting, San Jacinto College defeated Angelina College 7-2 late on Sunday night to advance to round three of the Region XIV tournament at Northeast Texas Community College

After starting the game over two hours late, San Jac starting right-hander Chris Corrigan pitched eight and two-thirds innings, baffling Angelina hitters with an electric fastball, a sharp-breaking slider and a darting change-up. Michael Johnson faced the final batter and sealed the victory with a strikeout.

“Chris really stepped up to the challenge when we needed him and pitched an outstanding game,” remarked San Jacinto College head coach Tom Arrington. “Mostly because of his changeup, he was able to shut down a potent offense that was heavily stacked with left-handed hitters.”

On offense, San Jac made good use of scoring opportunities, knocking in seven runs on eight hits and capitalizing on two costly errors. “We got key hits and run production from the bottom of the lineup,” Arrington said. “It was good to see that kind of depth and balance throughout the lineup.”

San Jacinto College (44-12) will play again on Monday, May 12 at 5 p.m. against South Zone rival Alvin (33-14). Follow the San Jac baseball team online during the Region XIV tournament at http://www.tsrnsports.com.
