Sophomore
Spanishtown / St. Catherine, Jamaica / Jonathan Grant HS
Kieron Bernard, a 6-3 defender, returns to the soccer field as the team captain and veteran for San Jacinto College soccer. A sophomore from Spanishtown, Jamaica, Kieron (nicknamed “Nandi”) will be looked to on the field this season for his leadership and experience.
Kieron was a top defender for San Jac in 2007, notching second-team all-America honors as a freshman. He helped SJC to a fourth-place finish at the national tournament.
In high school he was named the most all-around athlete (he also played basketball and ran track and field), and soccer player of the year. He helped his team to the Walker Cup Championship. Athletics is nothing new for his family, as his cousin, Korene Hinds, runs track and field (1500m and 3000m Steeplechase). Korene just ran for Jamaica in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
In his free time, Kieron enjoys sleeping, shopping, going to the movies and traveling. He is undecided on a major, but wants to one day be a professional soccer player. He enjoys reggae music (Beenie Man), and Shawn Paul. His favorite food is rice and peas, and jerk chicken. He likes the summer and Christmas. He lists his favorite athlete as John Terry and his favorite professional sports team as Manchester United.
Look for Kieron defending the net and helping San Jac return to the national championship in 2008!
