Soccer blanked in season opener
8/25/2008
GREAT BEND, Kansas – San Jacinto College’s soccer team got out of the gate a little slowly in a season-opening 2-0 loss to Garden City Community College at the Barton County Classic Saturday in Kansas.
The Busters were able to find the net twice in handing fourth-ranked San Jacinto College the defeat. Heavy rains and some flooding in the Great Bend area forced the cancellation of San Jacinto’s scheduled game with host Barton County Sunday.
Counting San Jac’s exhibition loss to the Houston Dynamo reserves last Thursday, the team has now gone scoreless over a 180-minute span. However, head coach David Santesteban is confident the early drought will end.
“We just have to give Garden City credit for coming out and playing a great game,” Santesteban said. “They are much-improved as a program and should have a good year. “As for ourselves, we have to get back out in practice, work on some things and get the right combinations of players on the field. Even though we didn’t get to play Barton County, the trip was a good learning experience for us. We have a young team, but we’re going to get things smoothed out.”
San Jac next heads to Georgia for the Georgia Perimeter Invitational where they will face host Georgia Perimeter and Louisburg College.
