PASADENA, Texas – Five volleyball players from San Jacinto College have been named to the all Region XIV conference team, as voted by the league coaches. In addition, San Jac had the setter, player and coach of the year.
Sophomore hitters Julia Teixeira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Bruna Rocha (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Zuzana Cizova (Zlin, Czech Republic), and freshman setter Abbey Parker (Houston / Dobie High School) earned first team honors, while freshman libero Brooke Spossey (Houston / Dobie High School) was named to the second team.
Along with Lee College’s Julisa Ocasio, Parker was co-setter of the year for the conference, while Cizova earned conference player of the year honors. In addition, seventh-year head coach Sharon Nelson was named the Region XIV conference coach of the year.
This season Teixeira is hitting .391, and ranks 12th in the nation with 4.1 kills per game. Rocha ranks ninth in the country in kills per game, averaging 4.2 per game. Cizova has notched 21 double-doubles (kills-digs) this season, hitting .347 behind a team-leading 432 kills. She is fourth in the nation in kills per game with a 4.4 average.
Parker has led the nation in assists for much of the season. Following this weekend, when she put up 80 total assists in two matches and leading San Jac to the Region XIV title, Parker now averages 13.3 assists per game.
Spossey is 28th in the nation in digs with a 4.2 per game average, and is second on the team with 302 total digs.
Nelson owns an overall record of 200-77 in seven years at San Jacinto College.
San Jac (30-2) is headed back to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament for the fourth-straight year, after defeating Wharton County Junior College and Laredo Community College this past weekend for the Region XIV title.
