The Music and Audio Engineering Department is currently home to four student organizations:
The Audio Engineering Organization is dedicated to providing audio engineering majors hands-on experience outside of the classroom. Students in the AEO provide live sound reinforcement and recording services to concerts, recitals and other live events– both on and off campus.
Orpheus is dedicated to the promotions and performance of contemporary chamber music composed by students of SJCC. Under the direction of Professor Joseph Schenck, students present several concerts a year, both on and off of campus, and attend concerts throughout the Houston area at the major universities and performance companies as a group.
The San Jacinto College Central Handbell Choir is sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Pasadena, Texas and rehearse at the church on Sunday afternoons. The Handbell Choir rings 5-octaves of Schulmerich Bells. The organization is open to students who play in the group and any other interested persons.
The San Jacinto College Central Steel Band performs on traditional Trinidadian steel drums and is open to all SJC students. To join, register for MUEN 1131.102 (Small Instrumental Ensemble) with Michael Mizma. The steel drum band performs for events on and off campus several times a semester and frequently commissions new works by guest composers.
