Become a Driving Force in This Growing Industry

Truck driving is an important industry in the American economy. The business of hauling raw material and finished goods is vital for the smooth flow of an industrialized society. The industry is a vital component of the supply chain and is projected to grow 21 percent by 2020.

First Things First – Obtain Your License

All students must obtain a class A restricted license before registering for the class. The cost of the class A restricted license is $11.00. You may pick up a Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver Handbook (free of charge) to prepare. The only DPS office available for testing is in the Pasadena office located at 2783 Red Bluff Suite 100 (phone: 713-473-3232). You will need your original or certified copy of your birth certificate.

You will need to take Section 14 & 6 for the Class A Restricted license (learners permit) before taking the rest of the required written test. You will be required to pay for your license before taking the remainder of the required written test. This ensures that you are qualified for the steps required by your Truck Driving instructor.

The remaining sections are:

Section 2: General Knowledge

Section 5: Air Brakes

Section 7: Doubles and Triples (Optional)

Section 8: Tank Vehicles

Section 9: Hazardous Materials (Recommended)

Section 11: Pre-trip

It is highly recommended that students in the day class take all seven Commercial Driver’s License written tests and endorsements at least one week before class starts.

Physicals and Drug Testing

Department of Transportation physicals will be required at the student's expense. Please see the course information packet for more information.

You must also take a drug test within one to seven days before the first day of class. Please report to:

Deer Park Family Clinic

2910 Center Street
Deer Park, Texas
