Fundamental Payroll Courses

San Jacinto College has a variety of payroll courses that study of payroll procedures, taxing entities, and reporting requirements of local, state, and federal taxing authorities in a manual and computerized environment. Beginning with a review of basic accounting principles, it covers the knowledge, skills and abilities tested on the Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) exam offered by the American Payroll Association (APA). Learners will review QuickBooks basics and then learn to setup and run payroll, create and write payroll checks, practice paying payroll taxes. SJC offers PayTrain Mastery and FPC Exam Preparations.

Accounting/Payroll Specialist Certificate Program

Who Should Attend:

Individuals who want to launch a career in Accounting or Bookkeeping.

High school/GED and proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English. The purchase of a textbook is required.

Cost:

$525 (Textbook Required)

This course is a study of the basic accounting cycle from the source documents to the post-closing documents.  Using a workbook, learners will have the opportunity to analyze, record, journalize, post, etc. for a fictitious business. Learners will acquire the understanding of banking procedures and control of cash.  Students will also be exposed to the payroll process, by calculating, paying, recording and reporting payroll and payroll taxes. 

 

This course presents the basic framework and concepts of accounting in a manual setting.  Students will analyze, classify and record business transactions.  Upon completion, students will have a fundamental understanding of the accounting cycle.  In addition, students will have learned to prepare financial statements and understand their impact on economic decision making and their value to various entities and the public.  As well as, comprehend banking procedures, control of cash and the fundamentals of the payroll process.

OUTCOMES

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Post to the ledger and prepare the trial balance
  • Prepare a worksheet 
  • Prepare the financial statements from the worksheet

Prerequisites:

To qualify for CPP certification, candidates must have three years of payroll experience in the five years prior to taking the exam.

$725 (materials included)

The PayTrain College & University Program (PayTrain C/U) was designed by the American Payroll Association (APA) to meet the specific educational needs of payroll professionals and those involved with payroll-related businesses. PayTrain C/U comprises two courses—PayTrain Fundamentals and PayTrain Mastery. The courses cover the skills and body of knowledge deemed critical by the APA for payroll professionals and are the basis for the Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) and Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) examinations. PayTrain Fundamentals provides excellent preparation for the FPC exam. Completing both the PayTrain Fundamentals and PayTrain Mastery courses is recommended preparation for the CPP exam.

FPC Exam Prep

Payroll Specialist Fast Track Certificate Program
 

Who Should Attend:

Payroll personnel requiring compliance training; Payroll professionals seeking professional development; Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) exam candidates; CPPs needing re-certification credit hours; or Payroll service bureau client representatives.
