Prerequisites: Current Negative TB, American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR**, background check is required through PreCheck (see link below) and is an additional student expense. No GED or high school diploma required. Students 16 and 17 years old are eligible for certification by the state agency, DADS. A waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian for students less than 18 years old. Registration after the first class meeting is not allowed. Students with medical conditions, including pregnancy, must have a release from their physician, prior to class start date. Must be able to squat, bend and lift or assist with 100 pounds.
Enter the field of nursing by becoming a Certified Nurse Aide. This class will teach you the skills, knowledge, and abilities to care for residents of long-term care facilities. You will learn how to provide safety and preventive measures in the care of residents as well as how to function as a member of the health care team. You will be prepared for entry level employment in long-term care facilities, hospitals, and doctor's offices. After completion of the class, you will be eligible to take the State of Texas Certified Nurse Aide Certification Exam. Includes 40 hours of clinical practice (Five 8 hour days). *This course of study prepares candidates to be certified. Candidates become "Certified" by passing the required certifying agency exam.

Candidates cannot be listed as unemployable on the Employee Misconduct Registry (EMR) and cannot have been convicted of a criminal offense as listed in Texas Health and Safety code 250.006. Candidates become "certified" by passing the required certifying agency exam.
Note: **Students may register for BOTH the CPR and CNA courses simultaneously as long as the CPR class occurs before the beginning date of the CNA course.
*Face-to-face registration is required for the CNA class because the student must provide additional documentation, such as proof of immunizations, background check, etc.
