What Houston is Like

Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States with a population of 3.5 million. Houston is a vibrant, international city. From multi-cultural extravaganzas such as the Houston International Festival and Worldfest-the Houston International Film Festival, to the Italian, Caribbean, Mediterranean and Egyptian festivals, among others in the fall, international students will find numerous diversions that remind them of home. The city also offers a variety of ethnic cuisines including Indonesian, Greek, Chinese, Ethiopian, Mexican, and Indian.

Houston is home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world, and the Johnson Space Center, which includes the control center for all manned U.S. space flights.

CLOTHING AND WEATHER
During the summer months (June to September) the average temperature is 31 degrees Celsius. Because of this hot weather, lightweight clothes, including shorts and T-shirts, are worn. The winter months (December to mid-March) require warm clothing, although the temperature only occasionally drops below freezing. The average temperature for this time of year is 16 degrees Celsius. It rarely snows in south Texas.
