Introduction to Intercultural Competence 1: Developing Cultural Self-Awareness and Intercultural Curiosity
This module establishes a common language to use for discussing cultural differences more comfortably.  Participants will increase cultural self-awareness and identify the impact of communication styles on cross-cultural interactions.

Objectives:
• Define culture and define the elements of culture that affect interactions.
• Generate a common language to use to discuss cultural differences more comfortably.
• Distinguish between destructive stereotypes and useful generalizations.
• Increase "cultural self-awareness."
• Recognize how unconscious reactions to nonverbal behaviors affect judgments about others.
• Identify the impact in communication styles on interactions across cultures.
• Increase knowledge and improve skills for bridging cultural differences.

Introduction to Intercultural Competence 2: Focusing on Commonalities and Team Building
This module focuses on commonalities and differences of personality, with the application of True Colors®.  Participants identify their own personality type and become aware of, and appreciate, strengths and needs of their own and other personality types.

Objectives:
• Seek to create an environment that is supportive, challenging, and stimulating for all four personality styles or colors.
• Gain cooperation and enter into collaborative projects utilizing strengths of
• Use the most appropriate and conscious methods of communication and team-building to attain the best outcomes.
• Relate more effectively with everyone.
• Celebrate the diversity of personalities with great respect and honor.

 

Introduction to Intercultural Competence 3: Increasing Awareness of Different Attitudes, Beliefs, Values and Experiences
Participants in this module learn how to identify and articulate their own personal and cultural values.  This module also focuses on interacting appropriately with people with disabilities.

Objectives:
• Identify beliefs, attitudes, and values in a cultural context
• Articulate personal and cultural values
• Interact with others non-judgmentally
• Understand how to interact with people with disabilities appropriately

 

Introduction to Intercultural Competence 4: Accepting the Reality and Difficulties of Difference
This module continues the discussion on cultural values and how values influence our response to difference. Discussion will begin with the topic of aging and then encourage participants to address the topics of race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality in a non-judgmental and constructive environment. Participants learn that different realities exist and focus on what we can learn from one another.

Advanced Intercultural Competence: Fostering Intercultural Competence
Discussion will focus on the development of skills that encourage an atmosphere of confidentiality and respect as it relates to the topic of race and ethnicity. Dialogue will center on the dimensions of one’s own identity and how these dimensions shape perceptions of self and others; as well as one's worldview. Participants will also identify how first impressions and group membership influence us.
