College rings in the holidays with ‘Santa’s Christmas Magic’

San Jacinto College Central’s theatre and film department rings in the holiday season with their festive production of “Santa’s Christmas Magic: The Musical.”

The “family celebration spectacular” will be performed in the Powell Arena Theatre, located on the Central campus at 8060 Spencer Hwy. in Pasadena. Performances are set for Dec. 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m., and on Dec. 6 and 13 at 2:30 p.m. A special matinee performance will be performed for area schools and daycares on Dec. 4 at 10 a.m.

Small Business Development Center to host credit score workshop

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at San Jacinto College will offer to the public a training workshop about understanding credit scores and the importance of credit scores regarding securing loans.

“Understand, Protect and Build Your Credit Score” will be held on Friday, Dec. 18 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the SBDC’s Pearland office, located at 6117 Broadway (inside the Pearland Commerce Center).

San Jacinto College seeking cosmetology instructors

HOUSTON – San Jacinto College (SJC) will host a job fair for cosmetology instructors on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at the SJC South campus.

The cosmetology job fair will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Jones Technical Building Conference Room, located on the South campus at 13735 Beamer Road in Houston. Part-time cosmetology instructors are needed for the Spring 2010 semester at all three San Jacinto College campuses.

San Jacinto College showcases student artwork

PASADENA, Texas – The very best of San Jacinto College student artwork is currently on display at the South and Central campuses.

South campus exhibits

The Art Students Competitive Exhibition is currently on display through Dec. 7 in the Parker Williams Library on South campus. The exhibit showcases a variety of student art and includes a selection of student winners recently recognized for their exceptional work.

Sergeant injured in Iraq to be presented a new home

An Army sergeant who returned home from Iraq in 2007 will soon be presented a new home, thanks to a community fundraising effort spearheaded by local service organizations.

The North Shore Rotary Club and the Galena Park/Jacinto City Rotary Club are collaborating with HelpingaHero.org to raise funds for construction of a new house for Channelview resident Sgt. Andrew Beesley, who graduated from North Shore High School in 2005, and now attends San Jacinto College North.

Concert at North campus to feature variety

Concert at North campus to feature variety

San Jacinto College North’s music department will host a concert that will feature a variety of musical styles on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Charles Grant Fine Arts Center located at 5800 Uvalde Road. The concert is free and open to the public.

A patriotic selection will be performed — “American Salute,” composed by Morton Gould and based on the popular tune “When Johnny Comes Marching Home.” A military veteran will be honored before the performance.

PASADENA, Texas – Students who transfer from San Jacinto College (SJC) just shy of completing their program now have the option to pick up their SJC associate degree while continuing courses at the University of Houston (UH) through a reverse articulation agreement.

College to offer free beauty services to cancer survivors

San Jacinto College North’s cosmetology program students will provide free beauty services for cancer survivors at the campus on Friday, Dec. 4 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The College is offering the service as part of Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day, a nation-wide volunteer effort. Free services provided to cancer survivors will include hair, skin care, and nail treatments.
