San Jacinto College South to offer Mandarin Chinese this Fall
A course in Mandarin Chinese will be offered this Fall at the San Jacinto College South campus.
The class will meet each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a one-hour break at noon, at the Interactive Learning Center. This course is an introduction to the Mandarin Chinese language in written and spoken form. Students will spend three hours a week learning language patterns and forms and two hours in lab activities.

San Jacinto College North’s culinary arts department recently staged an “Iron Chef” style appetizer contest pitting male against female culinary arts students. Judges for the contest included North campus students and employees, who were allowed to taste each hors d’oeuvre and cast votes based on taste and presentation.

HR exec to retire after 41 years of service
James Fowler, who has served San Jacinto College for 41 years as a dedicated instructor and administrator, is retiring at the end of August.
Fowler taught biology for 17 years at the Central campus, and then moved to the district office as the College district’s benefits coordinator. In 1987, he accepted the position of the district’s personnel/benefits director, a title that was later changed to vice chancellor of human resources.
