Each morning, Savannah Salazar walks the Lawther - Deer Park Prairie nestled in the middle of three subdivisions and home to more than 300 species of unique plants. The outdoors serve as the perfect setting for her classroom – one she was called to during her education and career exploration at San Jacinto College.

Patricia Fonseca once walked the halls of San Jacinto College as a student, but these days she finds herself bringing fourth graders to her alma mater for the one activity proven to increase student engagement and college graduation rates – outreach through service learning.
