Concerts to showcase college musicians
HOUSTON – Upcoming spring concerts will showcase the musical skills of students of San Jacinto College North’s music department. All concerts will be held in the auditorium of the Charles Grant Fine Arts Center on the North campus, 5800 Uvalde Road.
On Thursday, April 23 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., the College’s wind ensemble and jazz band will collaborate for a “Kiddie Concert” for community children. The program is designed to be entertaining with engaging music and listening activities.
On Tuesday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m., the jazz band will present an end-of-the-semester concert for families, friends, and community members. Students will perform big band and jazz combo numbers that they have worked on during the semester. The concert will feature blues, funk, swing, Latin, rock and other musical styles.
On Tuesday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m., the wind ensemble will perform an end-of-the-semester concert for families, friends, and community members. Student musicians will perform an array of traditional wind instrument band tunes, including Entry of the Gladiators, Candide, Ave Verum Corpus, Cole Porter classics, Third Suite (under the direction of student conductor Patricia Wallace), Chorale and Shaker Dance, and Stars and Stripes Forever.
Receptions will follow the April 28 jazz concert, and the May 5 wind ensemble concert. Both concerts are free and open to the public.
