HOUSTON – The San Jacinto College South (SJCS) theater department presents “The Great American Trailer Park Musical,” a big-hearted new musical comedy about women and their no-account men.
Based on the book by Betsy Kelso, with music and lyrics by David Nehls, “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” is about a group of tenants at Armadillo Acres. When Pippi, the stripper on the run, comes between the Dr. Phil–loving, agoraphobic Jeannie and her tollbooth collector husband, storms begin to brew.
Thrown into the mix are their unashamedly vulgar neighbors, including Lin, who insists everyone keeps their power on so there will not be enough electricity to execute her husband on death row; and Pickles, the young girl who has hysterical pregnancies. Also coming into town is Pippi’s marker-sniffing, gun-wielding ex-boyfriend, who plans to make trouble for all.
Sheleigh Carmichael, SJCS artistic director of the theater program, will serve as the musical’s director. Curtain times are 8 p.m. March 11-13 and March 26-27 and a matinee at 2 p.m. March 28. The production will be located in the Proscenium Theater of the Marie Spence Flickinger Fine Arts Center at the San Jacinto College South campus, located at 13735 Beamer Road in Houston. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens. For more information, call 281-922-3497 or e-mail sdramaboxoffice@sjcd.edu.
