Workshop will cover franchising

PEARLAND, Texas — The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at San Jacinto College will host a workshop that provides valuable information about business franchising.

“Business Ownership Options: A Look Into Franchising” will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the SBDC Pearland office, located at 6117 Broadway (inside the Pearland Commerce Center).

Persons who would benefit from the workshop include entrepreneurs who are considering business ownership, and people who want to explore business ownership as an alternative to working for someone else.

The “lunch and learn” workshop will cover such subjects as how to find the right franchise, how to use franchise laws to protect you and your family, which franchises are thriving in the current economy, top myths about franchising, and how to get financing for a franchise business.

SBDC workshop presenterThe workshop presenter will be Diana Trondsen, a consultant with FranNet, which specializes in helping people to start and grow business franchises. Trondsen (shown at left) has been involved in franchising her entire working life. After graduating from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in maritime administration, she operated a family-owned franchise. She has been in the franchise business for over 10 years and has extensive management experience in single and multiunit franchises. She has owned and operated up to seven franchise locations and her expertise includes implementation of franchise systems, business operations, and regional/local marketing.

The SBDC at San Jacinto College provides free counseling and low-cost workshops to help the owners of small and medium sized businesses start and grow their companies. SBDC consultants can help business owners apply for business loans, create written business plans, devise marketing strategies, develop operating budgets and more.  Workshops cover basic management topics.
