San Jacinto College announces key administrative promotions

Seven San Jacinto College administrators were recently promoted to key positions.

Dr. Bill Raffetto (photo left) has been named provost of the San Jacinto College North Campus, after serving as interim provost at that campus for several months. Dr. Raffetto has worked for San Jacinto College for 30 years in several administrative positions, including vice president for student services at both the South and Central campuses. Most recently he served as vice president for enrollment services for the College. Prior to beginning his administrative career, he taught high school English at Waxahachie High School in Waxahachie. He has held several state offices in professional associations, including president of the Texas Dean of Students Association in 1995.

Michael Kane (photo right) was named dean of health sciences at the San Jacinto College Central Campus, and will oversee the programs of nursing, medical imaging, public safety and security, and allied health. Kane formerly served as interim dean of health sciences, as well as dean of business and professional services. Before coming to San Jacinto College, Kane served as an instructor and administrator at Coastal Bend Community College.

Jeffrey Parks (photo left) was named dean of industrial and professional services at the San Jacinto College Central Campus, and will oversee the programs of business and restaurant management, interior design, cosmetology, massage therapy, computer information technology, electronics, engineering design graphics, automotive and aviation technology, and industrial technology. Parks formerly served as dean of industrial and applied technologies. Parks has nearly 25 years of experience in higher education serving as faculty member, program coordinator, program director, department chair, and associate dean at four colleges in three states. Parks is a former board member of the North American Council of Automotive Teachers and currently serves board member of the National Council for Workforce Education.

Dr. Kelly Simons (photo right) has been named dean of liberal arts and sciences at the San Jacinto College Central Campus, which encompasses the programs of college preparatory, mathematics, physical education, science, behavioral sciences, social sciences, music, fine arts, communications, education, child development, and language arts. Dr. Simons formerly served as assistant vice president of resource management for San Jacinto College. She has 27 years experience in higher education, strategic leadership, change management, resource development, educational partnerships, and community relations.

Dr. Kerry Keith Mix (photo left) was named dean of business and technology for the San Jacinto College North Campus, and will oversee all of the business programs, career and technical education programs, and industrial technology programs at the North Campus. Formerly, Dr. Mix served as dean of enrollment services for the San Jacinto College South Campus. He has more than 13 years of experience as a college educator, serving as an administrator and staff at community colleges and universities, and a professor of electronics at Coastal Bend Community College and student success courses at San Jacinto College.

Ann Tate (photo right) was named interim dean of liberal arts at the San Jacinto College South Campus, and will oversee most of the academic programs, such as English, history, sociology, and modern languages. Tate has more than 25 years experience in higher education serving as a professor, department chair, associate dean, and director of Educational Technology Services South. Since 2008, she has served as the director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at San Jacinto College. Tate has earned numerous professional recognitions, including the Kellogg Institute for Developmental Educators certificate, the Educational Leadership certificate from Harvard University, and the Academy of Leadership Training and Development certificate.

Tami Kelly (photo left) was named interim dean of enrollment services at the San Jacinto College South Campus, and will oversee the testing center, financial aid, veteran services center and enrollment services. Kelly has more than 24 years experience in higher education, including enrollment and student advising at the University of California, Berkeley; coordinator of academic records and event coordinator at the University of San Francisco, and assistant financial aid director at the American Conservatory Theater. Kelly came to San Jacinto College six years ago as the coordinator of enrollment services at the South Campus.
