TPEG scholarship-funded computer training available

PASADENA, Texas – Scholarship-funded computer training is available through the San Jacinto College Continuing and Professional Development division, thanks to the Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG).

The Microsoft Office 2016/Digital Literacy course, valued at $1,230, offers two schedule options, day and evening. The day class will be held on the San Jacinto College Central Campus, located at 8060 Spencer Highway in Pasadena, from Sept. 25 to Nov. 8, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The evening class will be held on the San Jacinto College South Campus, located at 13735 Beamer Road in Houston, from Oct. 10 to Dec. 7, 6 to 10 p.m. Participants will learn the fundamentals of Microsoft Office 2016 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) and keyboarding.

The Computerized Patient Management course, valued at $810, will be held at the Cleveland-Ripley Neighborhood Center, located at 720 Fairmont Parkway in Pasadena, from Oct. 9 to Nov. 15, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Prerequisites for this course requires successful completion of both the Digital Literacy and Medical Office Professional courses. Participants who take the Computerized Patient Management course will receive an Introduction to Electronic Health Records (EHR) and learn step-by-step computerized front and back office activities like registration, patient visit tracking and billing.

TPEG scholarships are need-based; applicants must demonstrate financial need. In addition, applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have no student loan defaults or prior balance due to San Jacinto College. Scholarships are limited in number and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must complete the 2017-2018 Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). Some courses may require specific prerequisites such as a high school diploma, GED, negative TB screening and a background check.
