Softball headed to Region XIV tournament

First game set for Thursday at 10 a.m.

HOUSTON – The San Jacinto College (SJC) softball team, ranked 11th in the nation, is headed to the Region XIV tournament this week at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas.

San Jac enters the tournament as the number two seed from the South, and will face Trinity Valley Community College, the third seed from the East, on Thursday at 10 a.m. The winner will face either Texarkana College or Galveston College Friday at 3 p.m.

The Region XIV tournament winner earns an automatic bid to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament May 17-19, 2012, in St. George, Utah. In 2008, SJC earned its first-ever berth in the national tournament, finishing that season fourth in the nation.

San Jac finished the 2012 regular season with a 42-11 overall record, 19-5 in conference play. This is the fourth 40-win season for San Jac under ninth-year Head Coach Kelly Saenz.
