Fourth consecutive financial reporting award for San Jacinto College
Andrea Vasquez-- June 11, 2012
PASADENA, Texas — For the fourth consecutive year, the San Jacinto College (SJC) fiscal affairs team has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.
"This achievement is the result of our fiscal affairs team's diligence in budgeting procedures and guidelines to ensure accuracy in reporting," said Bill Dickerson, San Jacinto College director of accounting and financial services.
Ken Lynn, San Jacinto College vice chancellor of fiscal affairs, also acknowledges the hard work the fiscal affairs team does preparing these reports. "Receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fourth consecutive year is a huge accomplishment for the San Jacinto College fiscal affairs staff," said Lynn. "Receiving these prestigious awards recognizes that San Jacinto College has reached world-class standards in financial budgeting. I congratulate our team for their dedication and commitment to excellence in all aspects of financial budgeting, accounting, and reporting.”
The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents the continued excellence in financial reporting by the College. San Jacinto College first received the Distinguished Budget Award for the 2008 – 2009 fiscal year. In order to receive the award, organizations must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines, which are designed to reflect how the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and as a communications device. Budgets are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and outside public sector budget professionals. Budgets must receive a rating of “proficient” in all four categories and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.
In October of 2011, San Jacinto College was also the only institution out of the 50 community colleges in Texas to have received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR), and the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR) from the GFOA.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving more than 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
