Volleyball to honor 1987 national championship team

PASADENA, Texas – The second-ranked San Jacinto College volleyball team will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the only volleyball national championship in school history on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012.

San Jac (19-1) will introduce and honor members of the 1987 national championship team during the Region XIV match against Laredo Community College. First serve is set for 6 p.m., at Anders Gymnasium on the San Jacinto College Central Campus, located at 8060 Spencer Highway in Pasadena.

The 1987 San Jacinto College volleyball team won the national title with an overall record of 39-7, and captured both the conference and regional titles that season. Then Head Coach Becky Lidolph was named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) coach of the year. In 20 years of coaching, Lidolph posted a 640-288 overall record. She was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2000.
