PASADENA, Texas – With a 20-1 overall record, the San Jacinto College volleyball team moves up the rankings and takes over the top spot in this week’s National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I volleyball poll.
“Thank you to the NJCAA national ranking committee and to all who support San Jacinto College volleyball,” said 11th year Head Coach Sharon Nelson. “This week’s ranking energizes our ladies. We have been working diligently all season and it is paying off. It has been a complete team effort all season. This seeding will serve as incentive to re-emphasize many of the goals and beliefs we have established in our gym from the beginning of season, but we know that the season is not over and there is still work to be done.”
Sophomore duo Oni Lattin (Houston / Bellaire HS [San Diego State Univ.]) and Marie-Pierre Bakima (Nogent-sur-Oise, France / Lycee Emmanuel Mounier) lead the team on offense, averaging 2.89 and 2.38 kills per set, respectively. Lattin is also third in the nation in blocks per set with a 1.50 mark.
San Jacinto College returns to the court tonight at 6 p.m. against Laredo College. The team will recognize the 25th anniversary of the 1987 national championship. Members of that team, along with the head coach Becky Lidolph, will be in attendance to be honored. Admission is free. All volleyball home games are played at Anders Gymnasium on the San Jacinto College Central Campus, located at 8060 Spencer Highway in Pasadena.
