Vehicles and industry experts scheduled for National Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Day Odyssey at San Jacinto College
Jeannie Peng-Armao -- October 9, 2012
PASADENA, Texas – San Jacinto College will host a variety of activities on Oct. 17 in observance of National Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Day Odyssey, an outreach and educational event dedicated to promoting the use of AFVs and advanced technology vehicles.
The general public is invited to attend free of charge from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the San Jacinto College Central Campus Transportation Center. Attendees may gather detailed information about viable alternative fuel options, like the all-electric Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, Toyota Prius, Ford Energy, and a natural gas vehicle (NGV).
“We’ll offer unique activities designed to educate audiences about cleaner transportation technologies that are tailored to their specific needs,” said Mir Alikhan, automotive instructor.
There will also be educational presentations, demonstrations, panel discussions by industry experts, automotive lab tours, and EcoCar displays. The College’s automotive students and environmental geology will serve as volunteers for the event.
“We may have already reached the tipping point when it comes to carbon dioxide emissions and greenhouse gasses and such,” said Malcolm Sadler, geology professor. “Investing in hybrid and electric automotive technologies could be one step in helping to combat the issues facing our planet today.”
National Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Day Odyssey is coordinated by the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Odyssey is comprised of numerous green transportation related events coordinated and hosted by NAFTC members, Clean Cities Coalitions, and others who believe in cleaner, more energy efficient forms of transportation.
San Jacinto College Central Campus is located at 8060 Spencer Highway in Pasadena, Texas.
