San Jacinto College launches online career search tool
Amanda L. Booren -- October 10, 2012
PASADENA, Texas — San Jacinto College, in conjunction with Economic Modeling Specialists, Inc., has launched Career Coach, a free online tool that allows students and community members to explore potential careers in the Gulf Coast region.
Through a simple keyword search, students and any visitor to the San Jacinto College website can learn about the employment prospects of careers they want to research. The real-time information is customized to the College’s geographic region and includes detailed wage estimates and up-to-date job postings associated with most careers. Users are directed to the College’s programs when searching for specific jobs.
“Career Coach is a very powerful tool that provides comprehensive and relevant data specifically for the Houston region,” said Debbie Smith, career and employment center coordinator at the San Jacinto College South Campus. “Since the information is updated every four months, the data is fresh and current. Published labor market reports are consistent in forecasting the labor shortage that will result from baby boomers retiring. Career Coach provides demographic information to identify the number of workers approaching retirement age; thus giving data on the number of jobs that will be vacant.”
If a career doesn’t look like the right fit, individuals can search for similar jobs and discover what skills may be needed to move to that career. They can also search for careers based on the College’s top training programs, or the program or major they are interested in.
Career Coach includes a built-in résumé builder to help students and jobseekers quickly and efficiently put together an updated résumé with key skills and job experience highlighted. The San Jacinto College Career Coach tool can be accessed by visiting sanjac.emsicareercoach.com.
