College sets open auditions for ‘Santa’s Christmas Magic’

Rob Vanya, October 17, 2012

PASADENA, Texas — San Jacinto College Central’s theatre and film department will hold open public auditions for adults and children to be cast in the annual holiday production “Santa’s Christmas Magic: The Musical.”

Auditions for adults and young people 12 and older will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 and Sunday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. Auditions for the childrens chorus (ages 4 to 11) will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28, and Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. All auditions will be held in the Powell Arena Theatre on the Central Campus, located at 8060 Spencer Hwy. in Pasadena.

The auditions are open for anyone in the community and enrollment at San Jacinto College is not required. “Anyone interested in acting, those who have little or no experience, or those who are seasoned professional, may audition for the show,” commented Dr. Jerry Ivins, Central Campus theatre department chair. “There is even an entire elf chorus of children ages 4 and up that will be cast in late November. All are encouraged to come out and audition for this increasingly popular event.”

“Santa’s Christmas Magic: The Musical” is a fantasy about a sinister plot to steal Santa’s magic. The cast includes 30 male and female actors, singers and dancers from ages 5 to adult.

Rehearsals for adults and young people will begin on Oct. 29. Rehearsals for children will begin on Nov. 30. Rehearsals take place Monday through Friday until the show opens on Dec. 6. For more information about the rehearsals or the play, please call 281-542-2039, or e-mail jerry.ivins@sjcd.edu.
