HONORS SCHOLARS PROGRAM - APPLICATION

In order to foster a learning community of like-minded, high-achieving students; to recognize the most outstanding graduating high school seniors in our service district; to continue to cultivate the special academic gifts and goals of our most highly motivated students; and to foster the outstanding instruction of our faculty, the San Jacinto College Honors Program supports a selective cohort known as Honors Scholars.

Honors Scholars are selected on the basis of several criteria. In addition to the benefits afforded to all members of the Honors Program, Honors Scholars will receive:
• funding (tuition, fees, books) for up to two years (61-63 hours) at San Jacinto College
• priority registration and enrollment in smaller classes with enhanced learning experiences and outstanding instructors
• guaranteed admission to honors programs and colleges at universities throughout Texas
• the opportunity to attend invitation-only lectures and presentations
• the opportunity to present research and creative work at national and regional honors conferences
• the opportunity to serve as Honors Program Student Leaders and Peer Mentors
• individualized academic coaching

Eligibility:
• First-Time-In-College (FTIC) student
• 3.5 GPA
• Combined SAT score of 1150, or
• Enhanced ACT score of 26
• Meets eligibility requirements for college-level mathematics courses

Application Process:
Completed application form
• List of extracurricular or volunteer activities
• List of awards, honors, commendations, or special recognition
• Accredited/official high school transcript
• One thousand word essay addressing academic interests and aspirations
• Endorsement from high school instructor or official
• Interview
