Enrollment for ‘Take 2’ courses under way at San Jacinto College

February 4, 2013 - Amanda L. Booren

PASADENA, Texas – Recent high school graduates and adults interested in acquiring continuing education and technical course work still have time to enroll in “Take 2” courses for the Spring 2013 semester at San Jacinto College. “Take 2” classes begin Feb. 11.

According to Saul Zarco, educational planner at San Jacinto College, “Take 2” is “an open window that provides an ideal start of a new year for those seeking greater opportunities through higher education.” Houston’s diverse industries and internationally renowned medical center are in need of properly trained and educated employees. Studies suggest that those acquiring an associate degree have the potential to earn an additional estimated $12,200 per year over the course of their work lives.

A higher degree can potentially provide greater opportunities and earning power. Conventional wisdom based on economics has encouraged many university bound students to complete their basic courses at San Jacinto College. One of the beneficiaries of San Jacinto College's programs is Jessica Cano, the first in her family to attend college. According to Ms. Cano, “San Jacinto College has provided me multiple opportunities to make my dream of a college education a reality.”

Those students interested in earning degrees and certificates to open the door for employment opportunities can enroll in technical training and certification programs such as computer information technology, electrical technology, HVAC, welding, process technology, maritime technology, nursing, respiratory therapy, sonography, surgical technician, eye care technology, dental assisting, construction management, agriculture, and many others.

People interested in “Take 2” classes should visit www.sanjac.edu/take-two, or call 281-998-6150 to find out how to enroll. Bilingual counselors are available to assist parents and students with this and other matters such as career planning, transfer options, and financial aid.
