College to present fanciful Dr. Seuss musical

Rob Vanya, February 11, 2013

PASADENA, Texas — The San Jacinto College Central theatre and film department will present “Seussical: The Musical,” a fanciful family musical based on popular Dr. Seuss stories and characters.

In the show, many popular and lovable Dr. Seuss characters come to life, such as the Cat in the Hat, Fox in Sox, and Horton the Elephant. The large-cast production includes singing, dancing, and acting by San Jacinto College students, as well as many adults, young people, and children from the community. Noted playwright, author, and San Jacinto College English professor Dr. David LeMaster directs “Seussical.”

“Seussical: The Musical” tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny creatures called “Whos.”  Horton faces a double challenge – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. The powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

The show takes place in Slocomb Auditorium, located on the San Jacinto College Central Campus at 8060 Spencer Hwy., in Pasadena. Show dates are Feb. 20, 21, 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. There will be a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 24, and a special school performance on Feb 22 at 10 a.m.

Admission is $15 per person (including children), with a discount price of $13 per person for all who purchase and pick up tickets two days prior to the show. To make reservations, please call the box office at 281-476-1828.
