Etiquette in session at San Jacinto College
Andrea Vasquez-- February 20, 2013
HOUSTON – Students at the San Jacinto College South Campus and community members recently attended the “Etiquette in a Business Setting” event hosted by the South Campus career and employment center, office of student life, and first year experience.
Etiquette expert and Manners Pro President, Mary Lee Kennedy, held a lecture discussing business etiquette, effective networking, and interview strategies. Following the lecture, a small group of students enjoyed a four-course meal, where Kennedy gave tips on table manners, body language, communication skills, professional image, and socializing. According to Kennedy, about 30 percent of business transactions are done over a meal. During each course, students asked questions on how to properly excuse yourself from the table, utensil usage at a formal table setting, and etiquette at business networking events. Overall the event provided students valuable insight into preparation for interviews and socializing in different types of business settings.
