Welcome to San Jacinto College New Student Orientation

We are happy you have chosen to pursue your educational goals with us. San Jacinto College is dedicated to your success so all new students (first time in college) are required to participate in New Student Orientation before registering for their first term. New Student Orientation is designed to give you the tools you need to be successful both inside and outside the classroom. In addition, Transfer students with less than 12 credit hours are required to complete Online Orientation prior to registering for classes. 

The Mission of New Student Orientation is to:

  • Engage students in the SJC culture in a fun, supportive environment!

Orientation Information

Campus Orientation provides students with information regarding the college in a fun and interactive environment with the guidance of Orientation Leaders! There are opportunities to win door prizes! You can expect to cover the following during Campus Orientation:

  • San Jacinto College Information

  • Campus Tour

  • Academic Advising

  • Class Registration

  • Opportunity to meet other new students, current students, faculty, staff, and administrators to have FUN!

As there will be lots of walking during the campus tour, please make sure to wear comfortable shoes!

Online Orientation is designed for those who absolutely cannot attend a campus session and is only offered immediately prior to the start of a term. You can expect to cover the following information in Online Orientation:

  • History of San Jacinto College

  • Student Online System

  • Enrollment and Program Definitions

  • Placement Testing

  • Class Planning

  • Catalog and Schedule

  • How to Register

  • Paying for SJC

  • Student Resources

  • Technology Resources

  • Taking Responsibility for your Success

At the end of Online Orientation, you will be expected to take a quiz to ensure that you have learned the information that will help you succeed.  After the quiz is complete wait 30 minutes then log onto your SOS account and complete the New Student Orientation Survey.
