SJC Alert Me will provide the College with another communication tool to keep students, faculty and staff informed during threatening or weather-related situations. SJC Alert Me broadcasts voice and text messages to phones, cell phones, and pagers in a fairly short time frame once an alert is activated by a College representative. San Jacinto College students, faculty and staff are encouraged to sign up for the service. While it is free to register, the end user is responsible for any and all fees associated with receiving a voice or text message.
“This system will add to what we are already doing at San Jacinto College to alert employees and students who choose to sign up for College emergencies and weather alerts in a more timely fashion,” said Teri Fowle, Associate Vice Chancellor for Marketing at San Jacinto College.
SJC Alert Me will make up to three attempts to call each phone number in the call distribution list. For those phone numbers not reached because of a busy signal or no answer, the system will attempt to reach those phone numbers up to two more times. Once a call is answered by a human or voice mail, the system will not attempt to reach that phone number again. Text messages will only be sent once.
In addition to SJC Alert Me, the College will continue to use its well established communications methods, including the College website at http://www.sanjac.edu/, College and campus broadcast e-mails, the College emergency hotline (1-866-504-5853), and local media.
