Dr. Linda Anderson, president of the Career and Technology Association of Texas (CTAT), recently presented the Region IV Outstanding Service to Career and Technical Education award to Dr. Steven Horton, dean of technical education at San Jacinto College Central, during the CTAT conference in Houston. |
“He puts students first, often going out of his way to make sure they succeed,” said David Barrier of Deer Park Independent School District (DPISD). “His support, insight, and encouragement have enabled numerous CTE students to continue their educational training beyond the high school level.”
Dr. Horton has played a vital role in developing CTE dual credit classes in the Deer Park, La Porte, and Pasadena ISDs and has served as an active member of the Deer Park ISD Career and Technology Advisory Council since 1991.
“The award came as a complete surprise,” said Dr. Horton. “I am beyond honored to receive this award, and hopefully we can continue to encourage young people and give them the drive to continue to college.”
