Theatre festival comes to San Jacinto College

HOUSTON – The San Jacinto College South Theatre Department is hosting the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) from Tuesday, October 21 through Saturday, October 25, 2008. The College will produce Mitch Albom’s “Duck Hunter Shoots Angel” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21 during the festival.

The goals of the KCACTF are to encourage, recognize, and celebrate the finest and most diverse work produced in college theatre programs; provide opportunities for students to develop their theatre skills and insight; improve quality of college theatre in America; and encourage colleges to give distinguished productions of new plays. 

On Wednesday, October 22, festival productions will include “Big Love” by Charles L. Mee and produced by Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi at 11 a.m.; and “Good Night Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet” by Anne-Marie MacDonald, produced by Lone Star College-Montgomery at Conroe at 7 p.m.

Festival production on Thursday, October 23 will include “Doubt” by Patrick Shanley, produced by Midwestern State University at 11 a.m.; and, “A Life of the Mind” by Sam Shepard, and produced by Angelo State University at 7 p.m.

On Friday, October 24, festival productions will include “Scenes From an Execution” by Howard Baker, produced by Sam Houston State University at 11 a.m.

Festival productions on Saturday, October 25 will include “Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music” by Lee Blessing, produced by Amarillo College; and, “Death and Harry Houdini” by Nathan Allen, produced by Lone Star College-North Harris.

All performances are in the Proscenium Theatre of the Marie Spence Flickinger Fine Arts Building on the San Jacinto College South campus located at 13735 Beamer Road in Houston. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain and all tickets are $5.
