Baseball drops extra innings game to rival Alvin, 7-6

MT. PLEASANT, TEXAS — Shoddy defense and missed opportunities on offense led to a 7-6, 10-inning loss for San Jacinto College against rival Alvin Community College on Monday in round three of the Region XIV tournament at Northeast Texas Community College.

San Jacinto College’s starter Tyler Dyer pitched six innings while giving up five unearned runs in a 10-inning, 7-6 loss to Alvin, Monday, in third round action at the Region XIV tournament.

San Jac head coach Tom Arrington expressed disappointment with the team’s poor defensive play. “There were breakdowns on defense and our guys gave up a four-spot in the fourth inning that really dictated the game,” he commented.

Arrington was equally disappointed that San Jac hitters squandered scoring opportunities. “Too many hitters were not able to execute in key situations and we did not move runners over with a bunt or a hit or a sacrifice fly,” he said. “It was just a poor game on our part.”

Nevertheless, Arrington expressed hope that the team could put the frustrating loss behind them and bounce back to play better. “We’re not out of the tournament yet,” he remarked. “We’ll keep pushing forward, do the best we can to get back in this tournament and win it.”

San Jacinto College (44-13) will face either Wharton Junior College or Angelina Junior College, Tuesday, at 1 p.m. The Region XIV tournament is double-elimination.
