Visual Arts at San Jacinto College A Clear Choice

For persons focused on a career in fine arts, there is no better place to sharpen that vision than at San Jacinto College. Here, students develop and refine their skills in small classes taught by creative and accomplished instructors. We offer quality training in the visual arts with Associate of Arts or Associate of Applied Science  degrees (ART - Commercial & Visual Communications) and Certificate (Art - Commercial, Art Multimedia/Animation, Visual Communication, Visual Communication - Multi Media/Animation) options available.

Two years of San Jacinto College credits are transferable to many four-year university. Our visual arts programs are backed by the same dedication to excellence that has made San Jacinto College a recognized educational leader.

The Department of Art at San Jacinto College offers a complete range of courses for the art major and an interesting assortment of electives for the general student and members of the community. The Associate of Arts in Art degree is designed to prepare students to pursue a bachelor's degree in Studio Art, Art History, or Art Education.

Commercial Art Programs are also offered by the Department of Art. They include the Associate of Applied Science in Commercial Art  and Certificates of Technology in (Art - Commercial, Art Multimedia/Animation, Visual Communication, Visual Communication - Multi Media/Animation). The certificates qualify students for entry-level graphic artists' positions at newspapers, magazines, and public relations firms. The commercial art courses all incorporate computer graphics in order to provide the most current skills and graphic arts computer applications, web-page design, and image processing. The North Campus offers the first two semesters of commercial Art as transfer courses. Students must then transfer to Central or South to complete the degree or certificate.

Art Exhibitions are a regular part of the Art program, hosting a series of exhibitions including visiting artists, as well as regular faculty and student shows. In addition, each year the Department of Art sponsors a High School Scholarship Competition, whose winners are also part of the scheduled series of exhibitions.

Art Facilities include modern and comfortable teaching spaces designed to help students grow, artistically and academically, with five specialized spaces; including, drawing, design, painting, ceramics, and computer-art studios. Small classes, outstanding instructors, modern facilities, and low cost are all good reasons to prepare for tomorrow's creative careers through San Jacinto College's fine arts programs. Scholarships are awarded each year to visual art students through a competitive review of a personal art portfolio. In addition, there are federal loans and grants as well as academic scholarships awarded through the college and work-study opportunities.
