Industrial Technology

As long as we need shelter, transportation, and electricity, we’ll always have careers in industrial technology and skilled trades. Boasting more job opportunities than skilled professionals to fill them, Houston is home to a broad industrial base in the energy, aeronautics and technology industries which means immediate career openings and the opportunity for long-term success.

Throughout the Texas Gulf Coast region, a 39 percent job growth is anticipated by 2020 for carpenters, as well as 29 percent increase for pipelayers, plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters. Other occupations, such as electricians, welders, and contractor laborers, will also experience a significant increase.

While the industrial workforce continues to employ a large portion of today’s working population in areas such as construction and manufacturing technologies, craft trade positions like welders, electricians and pipefitter fabricators are especially coveted and San Jacinto College offers specialized courses and certifications for all three trades.

We offer two paths for students interested in Industrial Technology:

The Technical Degrees & Certificates path sets you up for entry-level industrial technology jobs and kick-starts your career between 6 months to 2 years depending on the program. Information for degrees and certificates available for the areas of concentration are found in the course catalog.

Whether you need to prepare for a career, upgrade current job-related skills, or learn a new skill, San Jacinto College’s Continuing and Professional Development Applied Technology and Trades division offers courses and programs for a number of today’s industrial professions taught by instructors that are not only passionate, but experts in their fields.

We offer hands-on training in skilled trade courses covering areas such as automotive, electrical, sheetmetal, welding, or pipefitting. We also offer a professional truck driving program coordinated with the Department of Transportation. For the analyst interested in combining science with industrial operations, consider our nondestructive testing courses such as magnetic particle testing, ultrasonics, or digital radiography. If a technology-based program is more your speed, enroll in our basic or advanced process troubleshooting course. Regardless of your choice, at San Jacinto College you will find expert instructors and state-of-the-art facilities to meet your needs and get you on your way.
