Introduction - Instrumentation Technology
Instrumentation Technology is one of the most dynamic high-tech fields in industry today. Instrumentation technologists are responsible for installing, calibrating, and troubleshooting individual process instruments as well as complete control systems.

Since industry is continuously upgrading with new generation equipment, it is essential that our students be trained in all major groups of instrumentation: pneumatic, analog electronic and digital. A typical workday can include troubleshooting a pneumatic control loop, an interlock system in a boiler controller, or a high-tech smart transmitter problem. If a technician is to perform adequately, under these conditions then a broad technical knowledge base is essential. Programmable controllers, and single and multi-loop board mounted controllers, as well as a fully operating distributed control system, are studied.

The Instrumentation Technology program is designed to give our students fundamental skills in all of these essential areas. Our primary focus is in providing local industry with good, trainable entry-level technicians; however, our students will have the latitude of working in municipal water treatment facilities, crosscountry pipeline companies, or in electrical power plants.
