CONTEST RULES & GUIDELINES

Pianists and singers should perform two memorized pieces of contrasting style and period from the standard concert repertoire. All selections must be original solo compositions for the piano or voice. A maximum time of 10 minutes is allowed for each performer (judges may stop the performance if time limit is exceeded.) Contestants must provide an original copy of the music with measures numbered for the judges. Singers may provide their own accompanist or request an accompanist for a fee of $25. Previous 1st place winners through grade 9 must enter the next highest category. Previous winners of grades 10-11-12 must enter the Winners Circle.

Wind, brass, string and percussion players should perform one memorized piece from the standard concert repertoire. All selections must be original compositions for the instrument (not transcriptions.) An original copy of the music with measures numbered should be provided for the judge. Performers may provide their own accompanist or request an accompanist for a fee of $25. Musical selections composed without accompaniment should be performed as indicated, but selections composed for instrument and accompaniment must be performed as written.

Each entrant will receive a comment sheet from a judge and a certificate of participation. First place winners will perform in an honors recital immediately following the announcement of the winners and presentation of awards. Each entrant will be provided an opportunity for a 10 minute warm up prior to performing. Each entrant will be entered by their teacher either private or band, orchestra or choir director and proof of grade level MAY be requested.
