COVID Information

Monday, October 25, 2021

Dear Faculty, Administrators, Staff and Students,

Your health and safety continue to be a priority for us at San Jacinto College. As COVID-19 remains active in the greater Harris County region, including all San Jacinto College locations, we are updating our Case Tracking Dashboard weekly so that you have the most recent information on total on- and off-campus COVID cases traced, confirmed positive cases, and other relevant metrics.

For the week of 10/18/21 – 10/24/21:

  • Total number of positive employee cases for the week were 1 which represents 0.04% (0.08% last week) of all active employees.
  • The total number of positive student cases for the week were 17 which represents 0.05% (0.06% last week) of all enrolled students.
  • The total number of positive cases on campus during the contagious period for the week is 5 which represents 0.01% (0.01% last week) of the College population (employees and students).

There is no action needed on your part other than to continue to monitor your health daily. Please stay home if you are experiencing any new symptoms, not tied to an existing or chronic condition, such as:

  • Fever (temperature of above 100F) or feeling feverish
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Muscle pain (not associated with recent strenuous exercise)
  • Sore throat
  • Diarrhea
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Headache
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Runny nose/Congestion

As mentioned in previous communications, all students and employees must disclose instances of COVID-19 infection as described in Procedure III.3008.B.a on the Reporting Form. In addition, if an employee or student comes in close contact with or is living with a COVID-19 positive individual, the employee or student must disclose this information through the Reporting Form under the authority of Procedure III.3008.B.b.

Thank You

Hello San Jacinto College Community,

As communicated last week, we continue to work and consult with health officials in monitoring the COVID-19 levels, including frequent updates in response to the Delta variant. We also remain poised to update College protocols in response to local conditions.

Wearing face coverings was the College’s most effective defense against the spread of COVID-19 during the first year of the virus. To best protect our College community, the Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) strongly encourages all students, employees, visitors, and contractors to make the personal choice to once again begin wearing a face covering when indoors and in the vicinity of others beginning Wednesday, August 4. This recommendation applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.  For employees, face coverings should not display statements, logos, or endorsements expressing a political position.

In addition, we strongly encourage all eligible students, employees, visitors, and contractors to get vaccinated.

To help facilitate and encourage vaccination, Harris County Public Health continues to hold vaccination clinics in the campus Welcome Centers from 8:00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. according to the following schedule:

  • Central Campus - Tuesday
  • North Campus - Wednesday
  • South Campus – Thursday

We also remind all students and employees that they must disclose instances of coronavirus infection as described in Procedure III.3008.B.a on the Reporting Form.

Best,
BH
