PASADENA, Texas – San Jacinto College has been awarded a $189,987 Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant from the Texas Workforce Commission to purchase training equipment that will prepare students for high-demand careers as electrical and electronic engineering technologists and technicians.

The grant is part of more than $14 million in JET funding announced by Governor Greg Abbott to help Texas colleges and school districts expand workforce programs aligned with the state’s growing industries. Through the funding, San Jacinto College will train an estimated 110 students for well-paying jobs in industries that drive the Gulf Coast economy.

“This grant allows us to expand opportunities for our students to gain hands-on training that translates directly into meaningful careers,” said Dr. Brenda Hellyer, San Jacinto College Chancellor. “The demand for skilled technicians in our region continues to grow, and partnerships like this one with the Texas Workforce Commission help ensure our graduates are ready to meet that need.”

The JET grant program, funded by the Texas Legislature, assists public community, state, and technical colleges, as well as independent school districts and charter schools, in purchasing equipment for career and technical education programs. Each award helps institutions develop or expand programs that train students for high-demand occupations in fields such as healthcare, manufacturing, and engineering.

San Jacinto College previously received JET funding in 2024 to support its radiologic technology program, which trains students for careers in diagnostic imaging.
