A partnership between San Jacinto College and Meador Staffing is demonstrating how hands-on learning can translate into long-term career success for students.

Jasmin Castillo, a December 2024 graduate of San Jacinto College’s business management program, recently celebrated her two-year anniversary at Meador Staffing after beginning her professional journey as a student intern. Her experience highlights how internship opportunities can bridge the gap between classroom learning and career readiness.

This success story reflects the value of employer-college partnerships that provide students with real-world experience while helping businesses develop skilled, career-ready professionals.

During her internship, Castillo contributed to a range of projects that strengthened her attention to detail and deepened her understanding of employer expectations. She gained experience in candidate document preparation, recruitment event support, and daily office operations – building professional skills that translate directly into long-term employment.

Beyond technical responsibilities, the internship helped Castillo develop essential workplace skills, including communication, organization, adaptability and confidence in a fast-paced business environment. She said the experience reinforced what she learned in the classroom while giving her a practical understanding of how business management functions day to day.

“Tasks such as communicating with customers, supporting daily office operations, and collaborating with the team gave me a deeper understanding of how business management works in a real-world environment,” said Castillo.

From the employer’s perspective, Castillo quickly became a valued and dependable team member. Rita Townsend, corporate administrator at Meador Staffing, said Castillo consistently supported recruiting initiatives, office operations, and administrative projects across multiple branches.

Jasmin represents exactly why we value our partnership with San Jacinto College. Internships allow us to develop talent from the ground up while giving students meaningful experience that prepares them for long-term career success. She quickly became a trusted and reliable team member.

Townsend also noted significant growth in Castillo’s professional confidence. Over time, Castillo expanded her responsibilities to include front-office and client communication duties, resume preparation for recruiters, and assisting with social media content using Canva. According to Townsend, the decision to retain Castillo after her internship was unanimous.

San Jacinto College internship partnerships continue to be a positive experience for Meador Staffing, reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting local educational institutions and building pathways for emerging talent. Castillo’s success has encouraged Meador to participate in future internship placements as workforce needs arise.

Reflecting on her journey, Castillo encourages other students to pursue internships as a way to gain real-world experience and professional clarity.  She advises students to learn all aspects of a business, ask questions, take initiative, and use their experiences to better articulate their strengths in future interviews and resumes.
