TRIO Upward Bound

Services we offer

• After school tutoring during the week
• Saturday Programs twice a month
• Two-week summer program

The program serves 9 – 12 grade high school students at Galena Park and Channelview High Schools.

This program is completely free of charge.

Application Process

We are currently accepting applications from students that attend Galena Park High School from the 9th and 10th grade level during the academic year.

We start the recruitment of rising 9th graders in March of every year from Woodland Acres Middles School, Galena Park Middle School and Alice Johnson Middle School

Application can be emailed to you as an PDF file which will be found below.

Other items needed to complete the application will be:

• A copy of parent’s most recent tax return/proof of income
• A copy of applicant’s birth certificate
• A copy of the applicant’s social security card
• A copy of applicant’s resident alien card(if applicable)
• A copy of immunization record
• 8th grade STAAR scores or recent test scores
• A copy of the applicant’s transcript or recent grades

Saturday Programs

Saturday programs include Math, Science, Literature, Psychology, Spanish, and other areas of interest. 

Many career opportunities are introduced by experts in their fields. Field trips give students the opportunity to visit college campuses, cultural and educational events. 

Summer Program

The summer program is a two-week program beginning in June.

Our goal is to educate students on how a college environment functions.  The students are enrolled in courses that will help them be better prepared for the coursework they will have in the upcoming school year and expose them to activities they may not have an opportunity to experience on their own. 

We also travel out of state with the students at the end of the summer program.  Students are exposed to many first time experiences.  They fly to the location, reside in the residence halls at a University for a week, tour several Universities in that area and enjoy the attractions that surround them. 

Students are advised according to their own educational goals.  They are assessed based on their learning styles, career assessment, grades and test scores.  We prepare each student to successfully complete the High School Recommended or Distinguished Plan, assist them with financial aid applications, scholarship applications, University applications, etc.
