Veteran Transfers

Follow these steps for a smooth transition:

1. Submit all transfer and military transcripts.
2. Obtain a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility for your federal benefits.
3. Complete a change of place or program with the VA.
4. Set up an appointment online with a San Jac veteran services team member to discuss your academic plan and steps for enrollment.
5. If you are attending San Jacinto College and a four-year institution at the same time, obtain and submit your parent institution letter* to the veteran services department.

* A primary school provides a parent institutional letter to the supplemental school stating which courses the student has been permitted to take at the primary school. This letter ensures that the student is only taking courses that fall into their intended degree program. The letter allows the student to be certified for courses at both schools. The student must obtain the parent institution letter and submit it to their supplemental school for certification at both institutions. Visit the VA for more information.

1. Meet with a veteran educational planner to explore different academic pathways. Visit Veteran Services for contact information.
2. Meet with a university representative to determine what program is best for you to enjoy campus services and student life.
3. Get admitted. Attend a university transfer event to waive application fees if available, change your GI Bill school or program, and provide the university official transcripts, including military transcripts.
4. Get enrolled. Get assistance from a university advisor to discuss application status and transfer credits and create a plan of completion.
5. Get assistance. Provide the university with your veteran's education benefit documents. Then apply for financial aid and accessibility services, if applicable.
